Meet Goosie, our disabled African Grey resident who has taken STAR by storm.  Goosie is a prime example of why rescue is so important and why we exist as a resource for our community.

When we got the request to take in Goosie, we weren’t quite sure what to expect.  Although she had a visible deformity, we didn’t know what her mobility would look like or what kind of life she would be able to live.  Luckily, Goosie told us pretty quickly that she didn’t think she was any different from any other bird and was perfectly happy to zoom around on the floor, disability, and all!  With the help of the staff at Bryan Road Animal Hospital, Goosie has continued to thrive in foster care.  She is still working on overcoming some obstacles, but we are very happy with her progress, and we are committed to providing her with the best possible care.

Because Goosie cannot use her feet like a normal bird and also has poor vision due to bilateral cataracts, she must be kept on a smooth surface that is easy to navigate.  We knew putting together a safe cage for her would be difficult, but we were up to the challenge!  Zen Habitats, a company who specializes in enclosures for reptiles, presented the perfect solution and Goosie could not be happier with her new digs.  She loves scuttling back and forth from her food bowls to her bed, leaving a trail of crumbs and shredded paper in her wake.

Goosie will live out her life in foster care, and will not be adoptable.  But we are very excited to continue working with Goosie and hope to share more of her journey as she progresses.

We are able to continue to care for birds like Goosie with the help of people like you. Consider donating today.
