Birds Need Rescue!
When people think of animal rescue, they usually think in terms of dogs and cats. But some birds can live from 50 years up to 80 years or more, outliving their human companions. What do you do with the bird when the owner can no longer take care of it?
St. Louis Avian Rescue (STAR) helps find new homes for these companion birds who often outlive their owners.
Our Mission: “To rescue, receive, rehabilitate and rehome companion birds and educate the general public about avian care in the St. Louis Metropolitan area in order to improve animal welfare and the local environment.”
STAR is a Nonprofit Organization Staffed by Volunteers
We are an all-volunteer rescue and adoption group formed in 2002, to help homeless birds in the St. Louis metropolitan area. We began our organization as Perfectly Precious Rescue & Adoption, Inc., but in July of 2008, we changed our name to the more descriptive and professional STAR – St. Louis Avian Rescue, Inc.
We are a 501(c)(3) charity, so all donations to our organization are tax deductible.
Our volunteers foster a variety of bird species, with the eventual goal of placement in forever homes. We care deeply for our avian friends, so our adoption process ensures both bird and new owner are compatible.
Community Outreach and Education
We strive to educate and instruct the public in not only the care of companion birds, but in the appreciation of wild birds as well.
We have volunteers who can speak to children and adults on a range of topics. We attend community events to inform people about our mission and to show some of our available birds.
We regularly hold “Meet the Birds” events, where the public can learn more about us, our birds, and our mission. See our Events page our upcoming events.
If you are interested in adopting a bird, the details of our adoption process can be found on our Adopt a Bird page.
